Life with Boogie & Squeaks

Boogie loves arguing and doing the exact opposite of what I say.  I’ve asked him Why on several occasions and in different ways.  His answers are:  Because I think it’s fun to argue;  I want to see what will happen if I do the opposite of what you say;  I want to see what you will do if I disobey. 

I’m truthfully impressed that he can express these thoughts to me.  It helps me understand where he is coming from and I feel less frustrated that he is simply defying me.  It’s like a scientific experiment for him.  It’s learning about himself, learning about me, learning about consequences, learning about debate and emotions…even cultural norms.  It’s big stuff.  And he’s soaking it all up, like a sponge.

I trust that he is gathering all of this information to make good choices and to be a good person.  I believe in Boogie and I believe in his process.  And I believe in my ability to have patience with and respect for this process.
